The months of speculation about Vettel’s future in Red Bull Racing have come to an end today as the German has commited with the team until the end of 2014.
Vettel’s contract with Red Bull Racing was valid until the end of 2011, with an option for 2012, but now the current world champion has extended his connection with the Austrian team for another three years at least.
The discussions about the future of the driver and the team took place over the winter brake and make part of Red Bull’s long-term planning to secure a solid position in the sport.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said that conclusion of the new deal had been straightforward.
"It was in mutual agreement that we extended Sebastian's contract to 2014," he explained. "Both sides wanted to continue the partnership, so it was no big issue."
Vettel said: "The reason why I'll stay until 2014 with Red Bull Racing is that I feel very comfortable in the team. I am proud to be part of the team, and I am proud of what we have archived so far and will achieve together in the future."
