Volkswagen has begun taking orders for that GTI Cabriolet that it announced at the Geneva Motor Show last year.
The GTI Cabrio is mechanically identical to the standard GTI using VW's 2.0 GTI TSI engine with 210hp. It is available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG transmission. VW's XDS electronic front differential is also standard on all cars.
The top is an electronically-folding soft top. The interior uses the same plaid seats found on the standard GTI with a leather-covered parking brake handle and aluminum and leather gear shift. Leather seats are optional.
The exterior features a honeycomb grill outlined in red, and the headlights have LED running lights. The standard wheels are 17in phone dials with optional 18in wheels also available. The rear diffuser and exhausts are slightly changed from the regular GTI.
The top takes 9.5 seconds to open and works below 30km/h. It also has pop-up roll over bars in the rear headrests.
The GTI Cabriolet starts at €31,350 in Germany with a six-speed manual. The deliveries will start early in the summer.
