Volkswagen Hires First Factory Driver for WRC Team

Volkswagen Hires First Factory Driver for WRC Team

Volkswagen has hired Sebastian Ogier and Julien Ingrassia has the first factory driver and co-driver for its WRC team.

Ogier took third place in the 2011 WRC. He began his WRC career in 2010 when he drove a smattering of races for the Citroen Total World Rally Team. He drove for the team full time in 2011. Before being a WRC driver, Ogier drove for Citroen in the Junior WRC in 2009 and part time in 2010.

"I’m sure that they’re going to compete with the goal of clinching the WRC title, and I’m happy to be part of this from the outset," said Ogier.

“We are proud that such a successful and quick duo as Sébastian Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia have decided to join Volkswagen. The aim of putting a competitive Polo R WRC on the road for them as quickly as possible will additionally drive our team," said Motorsport Director Kriss Nissen.

Volkswagen also releasd a small video showing the Polo R WRC car and introducing Ogier and Ingrassia. The video is in German and English but shows great views of the car.

Another top French pilot/co-pilot team in a different team, hopefully if the VW is ready fast, that will promise a nice 2012 season...
