Volkswagen Ranked as World's Most Sustainable Auto Company by Dow Jones

as the world’s most sustainable auto company. Of the 31 automakers on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Volkswagen ranked the highest after analyzing its corporate, economic, environmental and social sustainability; climate protection, innovation management and corporate social responsibility.

“This distinction is a real milestone on our path towards becoming the leader in green mobility. We will devote all our energy to permanently establishing the Volkswagen Group as the world’s most sustainable automaker,” said Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen Group chairman.

Volkswagen received 99 out of 100 points for its sustainability and praised its efforts to improve average fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. It received maximum points for environmental management system, risk management and positive community engagement.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is considered the standard in the industry for measuring corporate sustainability.

Volkswagen also received Performance Band A classification by the Carbon Disclosure Project, its highest rating. The CDP is a global, not-for-profit organization that measures the ability of companies and cities to disclose, manage and share their environmental information.
