. In 2014 the German brand decides to embark on the fourth-generation of the successful model.
The new generation features new technologies and an updated design. The six engine range has also been extended and completely renovated. All versions of the new Scirocco offer improved consumptions. Except for the base version, the 1.4 TSI, all engines are offered with an automatic DSG dual clutch transmission.
The four TSI engines, turbocharged with gasoline direct injection, provide a power output of 125hp, 180hp and 220hp. The most powerful engine with 280hp is the unit that powers the Scirocco R. The 1.4 TSI unit with an output of 125hp is new to the Scirocco range. The other new engine is the 2.0 TSI unit with 180hp, however the 1.4 TSI with 160hp is still being marketed. Despite offering an improved performance of 20hp and a top speed of 227km/h, the new engine offers a saving of 0.6 liters of fuel, when compared to the 160hp version.
2.0 TDI diesel versions are available with 150hp or 184hp, featuring a top speed of 215km/h and 230km/h with the manual transmission, respectively. Consumption for the 150hp averages in 4.2l/100km and 4.4l/100km for the 184hp unit.
These direct injection engines integrate the new 4 cylinder Volkswagen family of engines and are up to 19 per cent more fuel-efficient. The most efficient version of the petrol range is the 1.4 TSI with 125hp with a fuel consumption of 5.4l/100km. The most efficient diesel option is the 2.0 TDI with 150hp with a consumption of 4.2l/100km.
The model's exterior design has changed in the front and rear sections with redesigned lines that feature the new H7 headlights or optional bi-xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, LED daytime driving lights and LED rear lights.
On the interior new finishes in fabric or leather are available, as well as new colors for the seats and standard sports steering wheel and seats. New equipments include the "Blind Spot" sensor warning the driver about vehicles in the blind spot and the "ParkAssist" system to assist with parking. The new generation also offers additional standard instruments in order to pay homage to the original Scirocco including charge pressure, chronometer and engine oil temperature.
