Polestar and current V8 Supercars team Garry Rogers Motorsport will create Volvo Polestar Racing Australia to run the team.

"I'm delighted to announce Volvos return to motorsport in Australia. Volvo has a rich motorsport heritage in this country, including winning Australia's most famous race, the Bathurst 1000,” said Matt Braid, Volvo Car Australia Managing Director.

Polestar will create the car’s V8 engine. It has been running Volvo’s factory racing operations since 1996 and is responsible for its competition in the World Touring Car Championship, European Touring Car Championship and Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.

Volvo has been quite successful racing in Australia in the past. It won the 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship and the Bathurst 1000 in 1998.
