History, development and general characteristics

Aston Martin released the high-performance DBS V12 model in August 2007 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The sports car that came to replace the Vanquish S as the main model of the Aston Martin range entered the car markets on 2008.
The DBS V12 is currently being assembled at the company’s plant in Gaydon, Warwickshire, U.K., while the engines which this model is provided with are produced in Cologne, Germany, in an Aston Martin engine factory.

Engine and Transmission

A front-mounted 6.0-liter V12 engine offers 510 hp to the DBS V12, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mi/h in just 4.3 seconds and go on until it reaches 191 mi/h (307 km/h).
It has rear-wheel drive system and works with either a 6-speed manual or a ‘Touchtronic’ 6-speed automatic transmission.

Chassis

Bonded aluminium VH Structure chassis.   Platform Ford VH platform.   Suspension Front and rear double wishbones with coil springs, anti-roll bar in an active damper-controlled suspention.   Steering Rack-and-pinion steering with Servotronic speed-sensitive power assist.   Brakes Front and rear vented carbon ceramic discs, with ABS, 6-piston callipers in the front wheels and 4-piston callipers in the rear wheels.

Body and Design

The DBS V12 has a 2-door coupe bodywork that is mostly made out of carbon-fibre panels (the first Aston Martin production model to make a wide use of it), along with lightweight magnesium alloy and aluminium.

Trivia

The first time an Aston Martin DBS V12 made an appearance was in the 2006 sequel film of the world-famous 007 secret agent James Bond, Casino Royale.
