The Rapide S was introduced to the markets in February of 2013 to replace the standard car.
The biggest change for the Rapide S is that the 6.0-liter V12 gets a major upgrade to 558ps (550hp). That is an 80hp improvement over its predecessor. The engine is Aston Martin’s latest AM11 unit, and it increases torque to 620Nm, compared to 600Nm in the current model.
The upgraded engine moves the Rapide S to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds. The top speed ticks up to 190mph, 2.5mph faster.
Even with the extra power, the CO2 emissions fall to 332g/km of CO2 from 355g/km of CO2. It is rated at 16.57mpg US (19.9mpg UK or 14l/100km).
Handling should be improved slightly as well. The V12 sits 19mm lower than in the current version. Aston Martin claims it gives the Rapide S more direct turn-in. It also has adaptive dampers and a retuned stability control system for further improvements.
The updated car wears a new grill that covers the center support, which makes it look more aggressive. The rear gets a more pronounced lift. The new front end is not all about style though. It has been reformed and lowered to comply with EU pedestrian protection rules. The new grill design allows it to move rearward in an accident to keep pedestrians safer.
Inside, the cars get piano black trim, darker instrument surround and either tan or grey headliner.
Aston Martin has added an optional Carbon Exterior Pack to the Rapide S that outfits the front splitter, rear diffuser, mirror caps and interior area of the taillights in carbon fiber. Duotone perforated red and black leather seats are also an option. Some markets will also get an optional reverse camera and optional two-screen rear entertainment system.
