About

Sedan

In 2010, Audi unveiled its renewed flagship executive class model: the Audi A6. Debuting in early 2011, the new A6 sedan has a light body, sporty chassis and features a wide range of new technology solutions. The new A6 generation is available with a range of engines and drivetrains, which include a A6 hybrid. A considerable part of the A6’s body is made of aluminum and high-tech steels, with the car becoming lighter, stiffer and safer at the same time.

Avant

Audi launched the Avant version of the much improved A6 model in 2011 with a price tag starting at €40,850. Large portions of the car are made from aluminium and there is an advance in the multimedia and assistance systems. The new car is also more practical than its predecessor and now boasts up to 1680 litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats folded down.

Design

Sedan

In terms of design the new A6 isinspired by the new A8. With 4.92 meters (16.14 ft) long and 1.87 meters (6.14 ft) wide and 1.46 meters (4.79 ft) high, the A6 features sporty proportions. The A6 features a long engine hood, a low, sweeping roofline and prominent lines on the flanks.

Avant

The new A6 Avant is 4.93 meters long but has seen its gross weight fall by 70 kg to 1640 kg (for the 2.0 TDI) due to the clever use of aluminium - of which 20 percent of the body is now made. Technology now extends to LED headlights and rear lights which are more efficient, visually arresting and provide differentiation from the previous model.

Engine, Performance and Transmission

Sedan

The executive sedan is offered with a choice of five engines: two gasoline engines and three TDI units. Power output delivered by these engines starts at 130 kW (177 hp) and goes up to 220 kW (300 hp). All engines are fitted with technologies of the brand’s modular efficiency platform, such as the start-stop system, the energy recovery system, and the thermal management concept. In terms of fuel consumption, Audi managed to bring it down by up to 19 percent throughout the entire line, in comparison to the previous A6 generation.

The engine lineup offers three different transmissions, depending on the engine version. This choice includes a manual six-speed transmission, the continuously variable multitronic, and the brand-new, sporty S tronic.

Avant

It will be launched with 6 engines, with 2 petrol engines and 4 diesel engines in the line up. These are mated to either a 6 speed manual, 7 speed S tronic, continuously variable multitronic or eight speed tiptronic. All of the gearboxes come with widely spaced ratios and a long final drive ratio to improve efficiency. Audi’s Quattro four wheel drive system is offered across the range.
