Successor of the BMW Compact, the BMW 1 Series is a small family car model produced by the German automaker BMW since 2004. The 1 Series is available in four different body styles: 3-door and 5-door hatchback, copé and convertible.

The BMW 1 series was introduced in late 2004 as a lower end entry to BMW in response to the 3 series gradual upmarket shift. The 1 series shares with the 3 series many structural, chassis, powertrain, hardware and electronic elements.

The 1 Series line is produced in Leipzig, Germany at BMW's factory.
