At this year's Villa d'Este Concours D'Elegance, in Italy, BMW revealed yet another Hommage concept, as it has been doing over the last years. This time it is the 2002 Hommage, a car that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 2002 turbo. The German brand states that the design study car reimagines the engineering behind the original model.

The BMW 2002 Hommage is based on the current M2, featuring a low height, compact proportions long wheelbase and a prominent “shark-nose”. Front and rear larger spoilers, as well as a series of air intakes have been added to optimise airflow and maximise downforce.

The 2002 Hommage received a horizontal carbonfibre band around the shoulder line, in a direct reference to the signature chrome strip of the original model. BMW use this division to create two distinct section on the Hommage concept: the upper part of the roof, bonnet and boot lid painted in a matte colour and the lower body with a gloss paint and distinctive lines across the flanks, including the wheel arches.

Two single headlights have been installed with separate turn signal repeaters embedded into a full-width carbonfibre strip, in another clear reference to the original design. The 2002 Hommage also received 20in alloys with bi-colour design and gold-coloured brake calipers.

No information has been revealed on the powertrain installed on the BMW 2002 Hommage. The brand states that the car is “a styling exercise to celebrate a car from the past, not a vision of what might come”.

So, in 1913,...  more
