After having entered the automobile industry with a small car, BMW risked the jump into the midsize category in 1933. The BMW 303 was the first model to have features that became typical of BMW later: the new two-piece radiator grille was soon nicknamed the 'BMW kidney grille'. A six-cylinder engine was also installed for the first time.
