The X5 eDrive uses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 94hp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery that is mounted underneath the cargo area with very little change in load capacity.

The plug-in hybrid system includes intelligent all-wheel drive. The car can reach a max EV speed of 75mph (120km/h) over a range of 19 miles (30km). When combined, it can hit 100km/h in less than seven seconds. It uses 3.8l/100km and less than 90g/km of CO2.

The eDrive all-wheel drive system is a modified version of the xDrive all-wheel drive system found in production models. The system can distribute drive power between the front and rear wheels, regardless of the internal combustion engine being activated or not.

The hybrid system runs in three modes – Intelligent for normal driving, Pure Electric for all electric driving and Save Battery to keep the battery’s charge up.

The look of the X5 eDrive is changed slightly over the current X5 with blue trim on the kidney grill slats, air intake bars and portions of the rear bumper. There is also a panel in front of the driver’s door for the plug-in port.
