First unveiled as a concept at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the BMW X1 is a crossover compact SUV manufactured by BMW since 2009.

Based on the same platform as the AWD BMW 3 Series Touring the X1 represents an extension of the BMW Sports Activity Series model lineup that comprises the BMW X3, BMW X5, and the BMW X6.

Production began in Europe in the BMW Werk Leipzig plant in October 2009.
