The sDrive18d uses a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine 143hp and 266lb-ft of torque and uses 5.1l/100km of diesel. It will only be available with rear-wheel drive and with a standard six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic.

The 2.0-liter diesel with variable turbine geometry accelerates to 100km/h in 9.9 seconds or 10.3 seconds with the automatic. It produces 135g/km of CO2 or 143g/km with the automatic. Fuel economy also decreases slightly with the automatic to 5.4l/100km. The car is also packed with regenerative braking, stop/start, electric power steering, shift indicator and ECO PRO mode. With the optional trailer package, the car can tow up to 2,000kg

Other than the engine, the rest of the X3 is left the same. It has the same 550l of cargo space with the rear seats up or 1,600l with them down.
