BWM unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Motor Show the second generation of the X5 M together with the X6 M. The model received an upgrade in performance thanks to the same direct injection twin-turbo 4.4 petrol engine used in the M5 and M6.
The new engine brings more power and torque, greater straight-line acceleration, a slightly higher top speed and lower fuel consumption and emissions to the BMW M division SUV.
The X6 M gets 20hp more power than the previous version, a total of 575hp, and more 70Nm of torque, 750Nm. Still BMW M has been able to reduce by 20% both consumption and CO2 emissions to 11.1l/100km and 258g/km of CO2. Combined with the eight-speed automatic Steptronic M transmission this version is able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h, but can be increased to 280km/h if the client wants it.
Compared to the third generation X5 the new M model is distinguishable through the new front bumper with larger air intakes larger, painted wheel arches, redesigned fenders with an air inler that draws air from the front wheels, bulkier door sills and deeper bumpers with four chromed exhaust outlets.
The BMW M also made significant changes in the suspension of the X6 M, regarding the standard model. Among them is the front upper wishbone configuration which allows for more camber, a more controlled progression of camber as the lateral force increases and an increased pivoting axis. Other changes include unique elasto-kinematic properties with firmer springs and dampers which provide a reduction of 10 mm of ground clearance compared to the standard models.
The X6 M still gets an air suspension with self-leveling rear axle and electronical adjustable dampers with three modes: comfort, sport and sport plus.
