The X5 Security Plus is capable of protection level VR6. This means that the armored SUV can resist common triggers from automatic weapons, like the case of the AK47.

Some changes include improvements to the seam joints and connecting panels. Furthermore, it has also been equipped with a safety glass.

The X5 Security Plus is based on the X5 xDrive50iX5 xDrive50iBMW X5 xDrive50iGermany, 2014 > present and therefore is equipped with a 450hp V8 4.4-liter engine. With updates in shielding, the X5 should exceed the basic 2250kg of the series vehicle. Sprint time from 0 to 100km/h should also increased compared to the 4.9s of the X5 xDrive50i.

The interior has not changed much and remains almost identical to a standard X5. However, BMW made modifications in the X5's driver aids and suspension systems. In addition, the car received a new gear lever.

Like other armored vehicles from BMW, the X5 Security Plus is produced at a Mexican plant dedicated to the production of such vehicles.
