In 2010 Buick unveiled the all-new GL8 luxury MPV destined for the Chinese market. The two previous generations of the model had sold 330,000 units across China since 1999.

The multi-purpose vehicle builds on the heritage of the original GL8, which was China’s first family of executive wagons. The new GL8 suffered improvements in terms of design, space and safety, technology, power features and quality. Developed by Shanghai GM in cooperation with the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai, the new GL8 targets the specific needs of Chinese customers.

In terms of exterior design the new GL8 features Buick’s distinctive double sweep spear running from front to back. Other Buick design cues can be found on the classic waterfall grille and chrome portholes. One of the most important features of the new GL8 is its spaciousness. The vehicle is 5,256 mm long, 1,878 mm wide, 1,800 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3,088 mm. It features ice-blue atmosphere lighting and a 360-degree wraparound design inspired by luxury yachts.

The GL8 has received an enhanced suspension with independent front-and-back sub-frames. Thanks to Buick’s QuietTuning, the interior noise is reduced, blocked and absorbed, for a distraction-free environment.
The new GL8 is available with a choice between a 3.0-liter V-6 SIDI intelligent direct injection engine and a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine. Both engines are fitted with GM’s advanced 6-speed automatic transmission as standard.
