La Salle was built by General Motors Corporation from 1927 to 1940. The car was named after René-Robert Cavelier, Seigneur de La Salle, a Frenchman that explored the Great Lakes region. La Salle was a high quality car built to fill the gap price between the Cadillac, the most expensive brand of GM Corporation and the Buick, the second most expensive. Designed by Harley Earl, the La Salle was smaller than Cadillac but quite classy and a fine performer. The sales were very promising but a sharp decrease in the Cadillac sales in the 1930’s forced GM to revise their strategy as to the company makes. The brand was discontinued in 1941 the La Salle being yet another victim of the Great Depression.
