about:
The 4th generation Ford Cortina was launched in 1976 and was produced during the following three years. This car actually used many of the basic elements from the Mk3 model, such as the same suspension and floor pan. Aesthetically, the Mk4 Cortina was somewhat of a restyling of the previous model, retaining as well its basic traits.
It was launched with four trim level options: standard/base, L, GL and S (for ‘sport), which were later joined by the range-topper Ghia trim version. Throughout the Mk4 Cortina’s three-year lifespan, this Ford model became once again the most popular car in Britain and 1.131.850 copies were sold overall until production ceased in 1979.
