History

The company’s first production road car, however, wasn’t released until 1963, which was the Vallelunga.
The car’s aluminium backbone chassis would spawn De Tomaso’s technological trademark, as being used on all following models.

The Italian carmaker is known for producing not only supercars, but also luxurious saloon and coupe models, especially during the 1970’s and the 1980’s.
Alejandro de Tomaso purchased other Italian car brand, Maserati, in 1976, from previous owner Citröen.

Eventually, the company got unprofitable and in 2004 insolvency was declared, although some De Tomaso cars were still produced during 2005.

Gian Mario Rossignolo bought the company in 2009 and set up a business plan, however, De Tomaso was again declared bancrupt by 2012 and Rossignolo was arrested for misusing public funds.
