As the successor of the Donkervoort S7, when it arrived in 1985 the S8 was a big step forward. First the new model was powered by a new 2-liter Ford engine that produced 110 horsepower. While developing it the engineers had paid much attention to safety. The dual brake system and the two aluminum fuel tanks, mounted on the rear axle were some of the safety measures adopted.
