The Overland Automobile Company was established by Claude Cox in Terre Haute, Indiana, USA, in 1903. In 1905 the Company moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. After short-lived partnerships with Standard Wheel Company and David M. Parry, the company was on the brink of bankruptcy in 1907 when J.N. Willys, to save his investment on 500 Overland cars, took over the company and reorganized it as Willys Overland Company now headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. The company was prolific in car models. The brand was used until 1927 when the Overland Whippet was launched. The Overland name was shortly revived In 1939. Willys Overland Company is now part of American Motors.
