Panhard was founded in France, in 1887, under the name Panhard et Levassor. In 1980, the company released the first car, with a Daimler engine, but it was on the following year that the first complete Panhard automobile debuted. This revolutionary vehicle established the architecture of the modern car that became known as the Systeme Panhard. In 1965, Citroen bought Pahnhard, and three years later, the production of cars under its badge was terminated. Since then, Panhard has been focused on producing armored vehicles. The company was sold 2005, but Citroen kept the Panhard badge rights.
