Ferrari will unveil the 458 Speciale at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
In addition to the new engine, it also gets active aerodynamic upgrades and more advanced vehicle dynamics. Ferrari says the upgrades to the 458 Speciale will roll out to other Ferraris later.
The 458’s 4.5-liter V8 gets upgraded to 605cv (597hp) and 540Nm (398lb-ft) of torque from 570ps (562hp) and 540Nm (398lb-ft) for the current engine. That brings specific power to 132.7hp/liter, the highest ever for a naturally aspirated road-going engine. The extra power sheds 0.4 seconds from the sprint to 100km/h to bring it to 3 seconds.
Pininfarina and the Ferrari Styling Center have added front and rear active aerodynamic elements that add downforce or reduce drag as needed. Ferrari says that it is the most aerodynamic car that it has ever made.
The changes reduce weight from 1380kg in the current car to 1290kg in the 458 Speciale.
The driver control systems have been upgraded with a new Side Slip Angle Control System that analyzes the car’s sideslip angle and optimizes the traction control system and torque distribution to keep it under control.
It will come with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires with a compound made specifically for the Speciale. They give the car a maximum lateral grip of 1.33g.
