History, development and general characteristics

Ferrari unveiled the popular Testarossa model at the 1984 Paris Motor Show. This car would become an actual symbol of the 1980’s culture, being especially linked with the yuppies. The word ‘testarossa’ is Italian for ‘red head’ and it was picked because of the engine’s red-painted cam covers.

Produced at Ferrari’s plant in Maranello, Italy, the first of all Testarossa versions benefitted from a weight distribution of 40% at the front and 60% at the back. The original car would experience its first revision in 1991 and was taken off the markets to be replaced by the second generation model.

Body and Design

The Ferrari Testarossa is a 2-door coupe, or as Ferrari classifies it, a ‘Berlinetta’ type of car. The bodywork was styled the Pininfarina design studios and is mostly recognized for its side strakes, also often called “cheese graters”, that grow from the doors to the rear fenders and were created to avoid cabin heating.
