Ford Galaxy was revealed in 1995 and it is a 5-door multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), one of Ford's largest minivans. The third generation was presented at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show alongside the new Ford S-Max. Like its smaller brother S-Max, Galaxy features Ford's Kinetic Design and a range of more efficient powertrains.
topThe new Galaxy features a re-designed frontal section, a revised bonnet that incorporates a bolder trapezoidal grille and new fog lights that emphasise Ford's Kinetic Design. The roof features integrated silver rails for cross bars and at the rear new LED lights were added as new body-coloured lower facia.
The interior was also improved, with new colours and materials, Ford's FoldFlatSystem is standard for the 2nd and, if fitted, the 3rd row which adds to car's sense of comfort. Another new feature is a Premium Sound System based around an eight-channel amplifier.
topThis is one of the first cars to be available with Ford's all-new, high efficiency, 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Producing 203PS it joins a significantly improved 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel, with 140 PS, plus a new 163 PS variant. Additionally the latest Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch transmission system is available for the first time on Ford's large car range and will be standard equipment with the EcoBoost petrol engine, optional for both Duratorq diesels.
The Ford EcoBoost 2.0-litre SCTi petrol engine is an all-new state-of-the-art four cylinder design providing Ford’s European medium- and large-car line-up with a new high-efficiency power unit providing power outputs of over 200 PS. It features an advanced combustion system, which brings new levels of performance and fuel efficiency to petrol engines in this power range. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost SCTi engine has a maximum output of 203 PS (149kW) at 5,500rpm, combined with maximum torque of 300 Nm delivered across a broad 1,750–4,500 rpm range. It is available exclusively with the six-speed Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch automatic transmission, providing drivers with a powertrain which combines outstanding performance and efficiency with supreme refinement. With the new powertrain, the Galaxy achieves 0-100km/h acceleration in 8.8 seconds, and a top speed of 217 km/h.
In addition to the new 2.0 litre EcoBoost SCTi engine, a broad range of different Stage V compliant diesel and petrol powertrains is available for the new S-MAX and Galaxy models.
The 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine has been reworked to match Stage V emission regulations and is now available with either 115 or 140PS as well as a new 163 PS version. The two most powerful engines are also available with the optional Ford PowerShift six-speed double-clutch transmission.
topEven with such responsive performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions are also significantly improved with the new EcoBoost SCTi engine, which delivers a combined fuel economy of just 8.11 l/100 km, and an extra urban 6.4 l/100 km.
The new 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engines also deliver impressive fuel economy and CO2 performance. With a combined 5.7 l/100 km and average CO2 emission of 152 g/km.
