Ford debuted a one-off Shelby GT500 Cobra during the Pebble Beach Concours d"Elegance to celebrate the life of Carroll Shelby. It is based on the 662hp Shelby GT500 but fitted with a 4.0-liter Ford Racing supercharger to produce 850hp. The car was painted in the blue and white livery that became iconic on Shelby's racecars.
“Even at 89 years of age, Carroll was an inspiration to us all. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra. The one-off car we have created represents the very idea he had about making the 2013 Shelby GT500 into a true Cobra," said Jim Farley Ford's Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
In addition to the more powerful engine, Ford fitted 13in-wide rear wheels, a wide-body kit for the rear and Willwood brakes. Ford and Shleby American is hinting that the car will be auctioned for charity after it has taken the car on tour.
