Izhmash-Auto SOJSC headquartered in Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic, Russia, has its roots far back in 1807, when Tsar Alexander I ordered a mining engineer, Deryabin, to develop an Arms Plant in the Ural Region. Deryabin chose a place by the River Izh: the Izhevsk Iron-Works. The factory produced rifles and other combat and sporting weapons until 1928, when the company diversified into the motorcycle industry. In 1966 Izhmash activities were extended to car building. Production encompasses passenger cars, vans and estate cars
