Jaguar to build C-X75 supercar in 2013
Remember the C-X75? Jaguar's technological showroom on four wheels, first shown at the Paris Motor Show last year? Well, looks like the outlandish Jag is going into production after all. 250 units are to be built starting 2013, in partnership with the Williams F1 Team. Much to our chagrin, the turbines were relegated to an eventual second production run. For now, the electric engines on each axle are to be assisted by turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines. So it's still going to be a while until we can go all "Top Gun" around the bends...
Remember, we're talking about a car that's lighter than a Ford Focus, with an all-electric range of 50km and average emissions below 100g CO2 per kilometre, capable of reaching 60mph under three seconds, all the way up to 200mph. Kind of puts the Prius in its place, doesn't it? Well, not quite if we factor in the £700,000 ($1.15m) admission fee for this very exclusive club. Still, imagining this car cruising the boulevards of Abu-Dhabi for the sunday photo-op makes me happy to see Jaguar back on top of its game. It's about time, too.
