Willys (United States of America, 1941)

The Jeep Willys is the most representative vehicle of the World War II, as they were the official US Army vehicles, besides having been used by many other armies. This Jeep is mostly recognized for its versatile ways and became extremely popular beyond military use.

The Willys company stopped producing their Jeeps in 1945 and within their 4-year lifespan nearly 650.000 copies were produced.

In 1941, Willys-Overland officialized the military 4x4 vehicles and started the production run of the Jeep Willys. Ford’s GPW, which is no more than the Ford-badged version of the same vehicle, also began being produced just shortly after.

Thanks to its enormous versatility, the Jeep Willys gained great popularity above and beyond the army soldiers and almost 650 thousand units were built between 1941 and 1945. In fact, besides the war terrains, this Jeep was also used for racing in the most arid places like the desert, for driving in the most rock-filled and steep paths, as well as for simple day-to-day regular driving.

No matter what, the Willys became a true icon, if not a ‘hero’, of the World War II and that is how it is unanimously seen today.

Each Jeep Willys is provided with a 2199 cc front engine that produces 60 hp and allows the 4x4 to achieve a top speed of nearly 60 mi/h (97 km/h).
