Jowett Cars Ltd was founded by brothers Benjamin and William Jowett in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, in 1904, under the name Jowett Motor Manufacturing Company. The name Jowett Cars Ltd was adopted after WWI. Their first car was launched in 1910. Jowett Cars produced sports and passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Car building was interrupted in 1940 and resumed after WWII. In 1945 Jowett Cars was bought by Charles Clore who sold it to Lazard Brothers in 1947, but the company kept in business, the last sports car model being built until 1954. The Jowett Cars factory was subsequently sold to International Harvester and moved into aircraft parts manufacturing. The company closed in 1963.
