The MKX shares its Ford CD3 platform, powertrain and other elements with the Ford Edge. The vehicle offers space for five passengers and a choice of front-wheel and all-wheel drive and a 3.5 L Duratec V6 with 6-speed automatic transmission.

A facelifted MKX was presented in 2010 for the 2011 model year. The model received updates in terms of interior and exterior design as well as a new 3.7L Duratec 37 engine producing 305 hp (227 kW).
