Lotus F1 Test Driver Takes a Wet Lap on Spa with Helmet Camera
Lotus Test Driver Lucas di Grassi strapped on a new camera to do a test at Spa. The camera is similar to the one that Joey Hand wore in the video I posted a few months ago. The cameras provide a driver's eye view of driving the car. In di Grassi's case though there were two problems. First, it is raining heavily at Spa for the test. Second, "I had to drive with only one eye open as the camera was blocking my other eye, quite tricky," he said. It is amazing how far camera technology has come in just a few years. It would be great if cameras like this became the standard in F1 during broadcast. Hand did not complain about the camera obstructing his vision in the BMW. Perhaps, di Grassi had a problem because of the smaller space in an F1 car.
