Humber

The Humber Company was created in Sheffield, U. K., in 1868, by Thomas Humber, under the name Humber Cycle Company. The company soon had plants in Nottingham, Beeston and Wolverhampton and Coventry. The first car, a three-wheeled, was built in 1898 and the first four-wheeled in 1901. By 1913 Humber, producing luxury cars, was the second biggest car builder in the UK. In 1925 Humber bought Commer and in 1928 Hillman was also purchased. In 1931 Humber was taken by the Rootes Group which, in turn, was purchased by Chrysler in 1968. The Humber brand was discontinued by Chrysler in 1970.
