Mazda unveiled the Hazumi, a next-generation subcompact concept, at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show.
The name Hazumi, which means “bound” or “spring up” in Japanese, is particularly well-suited to a small car that appears to be bursting with energy. Built with no compromises to Mazda’s engineering principles, the Hazumi expresses the ideal form for the company’s next-generation subcompact. The Hazumi works as a preview for the new generation of the fourth generation of the Mazda 2.

In 1927, the company’s name was shortened to ‘Toyo Kogyo Co.’ and it remained like so until 1984, although all the vehicles produced carried the Mazda nameplate ever since the company’s inception. In Japanese, the company’s current name and all its vehicles are spelled and pronounced ‘Matsuda’, just like its founder’s last name.
