Mercedes introduced the third generation M-class last September, and it is giving the new ML500 a sizable engine upgrade. The new ML500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY uses a 4.7 liter V8 that produces 408hp and 600Nm of torque. It is meant to slot between the the V6 ML350 and the top of the line ML63 AMG.
Power is almost exactly between the 306hp from the ML350 and the 525hp ML63 AMG. However, the ML500's fuel economy is closer to the ML63 AMG. It is certified at between 11.0-11.5l/100km. In comparison, the ML63 AMG uses 11.8l/100km, and the ML350 uses 8.5-8.8l/100km.
The new ML500 comes standard with Mercedes' 7G-Tronic transmission.
For style, the ML500 comes standard with 19in wheels and 21in wheels are optionally available. The TFT screen between the instruments has a higher resolution for better visibility
Options for the ML500 include automatically opening and closing doors and hatch, Active Park Assist, massaging seats, Bang & Olufsen 1200w sound system, AMG Exterior Package and designo leather interior. Mercedes also offers vehicle packages like the ON&OFFRoad package that includes special off-road modes and two-stage transfer case. The Active Curve System can also be added that uses active anti-roll bars on the front and rear to compensate for hard cornering.
