The Class SL is a large deluxe roadster series from Mercedes-Benz, as SL stands for German “sport leicht”, meaning “sport light”.

Debuted in 1954 and maintaining production ever since, the SL Class has fulfilled five generations up to now, which lets us guess the unusual longevity of each one. As a car class, the SL consists on a set of several different engine displays that accomplish these five generations.

In general terms, an SL Class car is a 2-door coupé or convertible sports car. It has been produced since 1954, starting with the classic 300SL “Gullwing” (not a roadster until 1957), and still remains nowadays, though having been constantly updated. Therefore, the SL has crossed quite a few decades without ever stop being regarded as a car industry symbol.
This Mercedes-Benz class has been “alive” for over 50 years and has sold near a half million units.
