Vito was introduced in 1996. The light commercial van is said to be named after Vitoria, a Spanish city, and Vito Rosenstein, a dedicated Mercedes’ employee. A more luxurious or passenger model was called V-Class, later replaced by Viano. A new generation was launched in 2003.
