The MINI Cooper was revealed in Europe in 2001 and introduced on the North American market in 2002. The ‘Cooper’ name was given to the classic Mini’s sports version, which was supplied by John Cooper and the Cooper car company. The name was resurrected mainly to give the car a sporty feeling right from the start. Nevertheless, the new Cooper received some harsh critics for its weak use of space. BMW-parented MINI Coopers are made in three main trim levels, which differ on their engine sizes, horsepower and fuel type. This model brought an immense success for the MINI brand, achieving great levels of sales worldwide. Around a hundred thousand copies of the MINI Cooper leave the company’s Cowley factory each year.
