Constructed by the Spanish car maker Seat S.A., the Ibiza is the first car developed by Seat as an independent company. It was launched in 1984 at the Paris Motor Show and is currently in its fourth generation. The Ibiza is Seat's best-selling car and perhaps the most popular model in the Spanish firm's portfolio.
The first Seat was developed by Seat in collaboration with well-known firms such as Italdesign, Karmann and Porsche. After becoming part of Volkswagen, the next generations of Seat started being built on Volkswagen Group platforms, parts and technologies.
The Seat Ibiza has had three- or five-door hatchback, saloon, coupé and estate versions.
The Seat Ibiza is named after the Spanish island of Ibiza and inaugurated Seat's tradition of naming models after Spanish locations.
