The Volkswagen New Beetle is a small family car launched in 1998 with a retro-style design inspired by the original Beetle. The vehicle is available as 2-door saloon and  2-door convertible and has a front-engine front- or four-wheel drive layout, differently from the classic Beetle, which had its engine placed in the rear.

The second generation of the new Beetle was presented in 2011 for the 2012 model year. The 2012 Beetle is marketed as the 21st Century Beetle and is based on the same A5 (PQ35) platform as the Volkswagen Jetta. Its design is more sporty and aggressive than that of the first generation, but it still resembles the shape of the original Beetle. This model comes with either six-speed manual transmission or optional dual-clutch DSG automatic. The engine range includes 1.2-litre, 1.4-litre and 2.0-litre petrol as well as a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
