The 2012 Range Rover Sport is to feature a host of new upgrades, details of which have now been revealed.
Chief improvements appear in the drivetrain, where the current 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel engine receives a power boost from 245 hp to 256 hp, CO2 emissions are brought down from 243g/km to 230g/km and fuel economy is 30.7mpg instead of 32.1mpg. These enhancements are mainly thanks to the addition of a ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox which can be operated via a 'Drive Select' rotary gear shifter and steering wheel-mounted paddles.
Standard equipment levels have also been stepped up for the 2012 model; a powered single piece tailgate has been added, while on the inside the Range Rover’s touchscreen now comes with Dual View technology that allows the passenger to watch TV while the driver uses the navigation system. The passenger is also able to listen to independent audio through the use of wireless WhiteFire headphones which can also be added to the rear seats. The standard audio system receives an extra 2 speakers, while the optional premium system now features 17 speakers outputting 825W. Furthermore, a ‘Say What You See’ system has been included to aid drivers in the learning process of the various voice commands that can be used.
An extra £3,065 will also get you the Luxury Pack on the V6 model to bring you closer to the supercharged versions. It includes contrast stitching on selected upholstery, 20-inch alloy wheels, Premium ICE, an extended leather pack, a HSE Luxury badge, a heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control.
Land Rover’s UK Managing Director, Colin Green, said: "The enhancements to the 2012 Range Rover Sport will ensure this car retains its position as one of the most economical and dynamic high performance SUVs on the market today. With greater levels of diesel engine efficiency, lower fuel emissions and exciting new features, the Range Rover Sport continues to live up to its reputation for power and refinement."
The MY2012 Range Rover Sport will go on sale for £48,795 in the UK beginning in October.
