Porsche has unveiled its future top GT model. With a power of 620 HP, 1,370 kilograms of weight and reaching a top speed of 330 km/h, Porsche says that the 911 GT2 RS will be the most powerful and fastest model ever. The new GT2 RS will make its world debut Moscow on August 25th.
In comparison with the 911 GT2 the RS version had its power enhanced by 90 HP and lost 70 kilograms of weight. The GT2 RS has the best power-to-weight ratio in its class with 2.21 kg/HP. These features have improved the performance of the vehicle but, nevertheless, the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have gone down by approximately 5 per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km and 284 g/km.
The GT2 RS is powered by a 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine which is boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry exclusive to Porsche. The rear wheel drive vehicle is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox. The sports tyres of the GT2 RS have been especially developed for the model. Measuring 325/30 ZR 19 they are able to convert the power into performance and acceleration on the road. Reaching a top speed of 330 km/h the GT2 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 9.8 seconds and from 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9.
For an equally powerful stopping the ultra-high-performance sports car is fitted with PCCB composite ceramic brakes. The sporting RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, the dynamic engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management ensure the appropriate longitudinal and crosswise dynamics.
In terms of design the 911 GT2 RS differs from the 911 GT2 through the use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in matt-black surface finish, the wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front. It also features light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as “GT2 RS” model designations on the doors and rear lid. The front spoiler lip and the rear spoiler lip have been upgraded and are now 10 millimetres higher.
Inside the GT2 RS continues to transmit the idea of sporting performance thanks to its lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The interior is basically black-coloured with some contrasting features such as the seat centre sections and the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. Both the gearshift and handbrake lever are finished in red alcantara.
The GT2 RS is a limited version of only 500 units and will be available in Europe from September 2010 and in the USA from October 2010. In Europe it will have a base price of 199,500 Euros. Including VAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will be sold in Germany at a price of 237,578 Euro.
