*Update* Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and will start the race tomorrow from the back of the grid. The exclusion is due to his car failing the FIA front floor deflection test. The left-front side of the floor deflected more than the 5mm allowed by the safety regulations. Lotus says the deflection was caused by damage to the floor from hitting curbs during practice and qualifying. Raikkonen had qualified in fifth originally. *Update*

cars were fast during all three sessions, and Nico Rosberg qualified third. Unfortunately, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, spun on his fast lap during Q3, but it was still enough to keep him in fourth place.
Webber and Vettel set back-to-back fast times with four minutes to go in Q1 and then went back to the pits. Hamilton did the same thing with his third fastest time. Kimi Raikkonen came out for one lap as well and set the fastest time. Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso took the same one-lap strategy, and it put them at the top for a brief time as well. Hamilton had fallen to 17th with all of the action going on and went back out to immediately set the fastest time.
Jules Bianchi took a five-place grid penalty for changing his transmission after hitting the wall during the third practice session. He had originally qualified 20th, and the penalty put him in 22nd.

kept with its strategy of sending its cars out at the very last possible moment, and it failed for them. Alonso was the last car on the road and could only manage 11th fastest. It is the first time all season that he did not make it to Q3. Paul di Resta and Jenson Button also did not make it to Q1.
Vettel held the early lead in Q3, but with three minutes to go everyone returned to the pits for fresh rubber and make a second attempt. Webber was around first on the second set of laps and set fastest time, Hamilton spun on his final fast lap. Vettel came around but could not improve on Webber's time.
