BMW i8 Gets New Edrive Moniker

Slideshow
The Edrive name will be on all future BMW i-cars

BMW brought the i8 Concept Spyder to the Auto Salon China in Beijing and have given the car's electric drive system a new name - eDrive. In the past the electric drivetrain in the i8 had fallen under the brand's EfficientDynamics name, but in Beijing it announced that its electric vehicles like the i8 and i3 will get the name eDrive.

BMW has developed all of the components for the i-series cars with its partners, especially with Toyota, Peugeot and General Motors.

It did not make any further statements about when the i8 will be released, but previous reports had said that the car will go on sale in 2014.
