BMW had a surprise in store for the fans of the
3.0 CSL Hommage. At Pebble Beach the German brand unveiled the
3.0 CSL Hommage R, a racing version of the concept unveiled in May.
The 3.0 CSL Hommage R is almost identical to the concept presented in May at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and receives the color scheme of BMW's racing vehicles.
Among the modifications to the R version is a race suit that displays information to the driver. In addition BMW unveils the concept with a helmet which displays on the visor the speed and engine information, while a line of light on the sleeves lights up when the driver has both hands on the wheel.
With the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R, Adrian van Hooydonk, Group BMW Design Chief, states that it is intended to show how close the driver and the car will be able to be in the future.
The minimalist display on the steering wheel shows the driver information about the track and position in the race. Other additions include a fire extinguisher system and an emergency shut-off system.
