Caterham saw the weekend of the Caterham Cup event at Magny Cours, France, as the ideal time to unveil its new R300 Race Car in Europe. Coordinated by the Caterham Competition France (CCF), the Cup series introduced the new European roadgoing Superlight R300 as part of the 30 Caterham cars that were gathered at the event. The CCF invited GT driver Soheil Ayari to try out the demonstration R300 model around the track, which resulted on him stating that this is a very fun car to drive.
The Caterham R300 is powered by a Duratec 2-liter engine that generates 175 hp and controlled by a 2-speed transmission. The drivers at the Caterham Cup were quite fond of the R300 model for it allows them to achieve higher speed and better cornering, which is exactly what they were looking for. They went on to consider this car as a “perfect balance of power” and some dared to classify it as the best Caterham race car there is.
Following the French drivers’ high interest in ordering the R300 to be driven on the next season, the CCF is also anticipating the possibility of German, Italian, Belgian and Dutch requests to enter the race with the same model. It is expected a quite competitive grid for 2010.
