Small trucks are a dying market in the US. The Ford Ranger is still based on a platform from the US; the Toyota Tacoma is newer but still withering on the vine; and the Dodge Dakota is being discontinued this year due to low sales.
Chevrolet still sees some life in the market, though. Because it has decided to sell the Chevrolet Colorado in the US. Until now it had seemed that the Colorado would be exclusive to South East Asian markets.
In Thailand, the Colorado is available with either a 2.5 liter or 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel engine. It comes in regular or extended cab with either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Chevrolet says that it does not know if these engines will be carried over into the US.
The Colorado was principally engineered in Brazil, but engineers have been tailoring it specifically to each region.
The current Colorado will continue to be produced though 2012, and then the new version will enter the market.
