is a weird beast when it comes to electric cars. The cars are based on the Chinese Hafei Saibo but shipped to Los Angeles to have the electric drivetrain installed. If its recent crash tests are any indication, the Coda SedanSedanCODA SedanUnited States of America, 2009 > present26 photos

might struggle to find popularity in the US. The Coda electric sedan received a two-star frontal safety rating out of five stars in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests. However, it recieived a four-star overall score because it had five-star scores in the side impact and rollover crashes.

In the frontal impact, it was actually only the driver who received a two-star score. The passenger received a four-star rating. However, the NHTSA bases scores on the lowest score in a test. That is why it has a two-star score.

The Coda is a pure electric vehicle with a 125 mile range and a top speed of 85mph. Its electric motor produces 134hp and 221lb-ft of torque. It takes six hours to charge from a 220v outlet. At launch, they will only be sold in California.

You can view videos of the crash tests below.
